Jeff Cornwall at the Entreprenuerial Mind has a post on what he has potential entreprenuers think about before they start a business.  Included is a checklist of basic questions that should be answered before starting out.  Check it out.  Substitute "artist" for "entreprenuer".

How to write a classical music press release

Greg Sandow, one of the bloggers over at the Arts Journal, has got a post on how to write a press release for classical music performances.  Read it, review it, take notes.  I especially liked this point:

Classical music has competition. A press release should—at least implicitly—give its readers reasons why they should pick this concert over other forms of art or entertainment. Or, for that matter, over other classical music events.

He includes examples of how he would write press releases for various performances.

Your tax dollars at work

Who'd a thunk it?  The stinkin' Montgomery County Council, a bunch of people who never met a tax they didn't like, a spending proposal they didn't like, a group of politicians who have a true gift for spending money that isn't theirs, told County Executive Duncan that he won't be able to distribute arts grant money anymore.  The reason: the process has become too entangled with politics. 

I'm thinking pot, kettle, black right now.  The WaPo has more.
