Handel's Messiah

Check out the Combined Choirs of the Washington National Cathedral performing Handel's Messiah.  They'll be performing on December 2nd and 4th.   Tickets run from $20-60.  Get more info here.

Shannon McNally at the 930 Club

One of my favorite musicians is coming to town in few days, Shannon McNally.  She'll be opening for the BoDeans, one of my least favorite, at the 930 Club on September 16th.  Shannon's one of these hard-to-pin-down artists who get the label alt-country.  Her music is a fusion of rock, country, R&B, and, most especially in my opinion, gospel.  You can get a good picture of what her music is like by thinking Sheryl Crow with a better voice and no fear of writing and performing songs with a little Amen-and-Hallelujiah in them.  I especially recommend her debut cd "Jukebox Sparrows".  You can check her out here.

The Fort Reno concert series is starting up again this year.  Thurday June 16th they'll be having the Rude Staircase, Sentai, and the Gist.  They don't have the rest of the schedule posted yet, but you can click here to find out who's playing when.

Got Bagpipes?

Kirkin o' the Tartan, the traditional blessing service of Scottish Tartans, will take place on April 24 (last Sunday in April) at 4 pm at the National Cathedral.  BYOB, in this case, means Bring Your Own Bagpipes.  The Flower Mart will be in early May.  I'll repost an announcement sometime in April.  Don't bring your bagpipes to that one.
